When an earthquake strikes, an instant strong earthquake warning is provided. To swiftly estimate the position, depth, and magnitude of an earthquake, the Central Meteorological Administration use shock waves detected by a few seismic stations around the epicenter. The Department of Information Technology will issue an instant warning to the public if the earthquake is projected to have a magnitude of 4.5 or higher and an intensity of 3 or higher.
With modern technology, earthquakes in Taiwan may generate alerts within 20 seconds on average. The blind zone extends 70 kilometers from the epicenter, so people within that distance will not stop until they feel the shaking. When an alert sounds, people outside the blind zone will be cautioned for a few seconds to ten. We would love to hear from you if you have any queries or recommendations.
